Quintard Mall Welcomes Fourth Vape Retailer; Property Manager Calls Opening 'A Sign of Continued Momentum'

OXFORD — Quintard Mall property managers, joined by Mayor Lyle Henley and representatives from the Calhoun County Economic Development Council, gathered Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of Quintard Vape Vault, the eleventh location of the regional retailer and the fourth vape shop currently operating inside the mall.

The new store occupies the corner unit between the previously vacant former JCPenney and what was, until recently, a temporary Halloween costume retailer. It is the third vape shop to open in Quintard Mall in the past eighteen months.

"This is what continued momentum looks like," said property manager Tonya Ridgeway in a statement Tuesday. "Quintard Mall remains a vital part of the Calhoun County retail experience, and the addition of Quintard Vape Vault to our growing tenant mix demonstrates that this property continues to attract dynamic, forward-thinking businesses."

Ridgeway confirmed that the mall's overall occupancy rate now stands at "approximately partial."

Mayor Henley, attending his second ribbon cutting of the day, called the opening "another significant milestone for the city of Oxford."

"Anyone who tells you Quintard Mall is dying hasn't been here lately," Henley said. "Look around. We are open. We are vibrant. We have, by my count, four separate locations where you can purchase vape products. That kind of consumer choice is what defines a healthy economy."

Wendell Moss, director of the Calhoun County Economic Development Council, said the new opening reflected the council's continued success in recruiting small business investment to the region.

"Calhoun County remains investment-ready," Moss said. "Has been since 1987. Will continue to be."

The mall's three existing vape retailers — Cloud Nine Vapor, Calhoun Coil Co., and Smoke Signals — declined to comment. A sign on the door of Cloud Nine Vapor read "BACK IN 5."

The mall's other current tenants include a karate dojo (Tuesdays and Thursdays only), a Bath & Body Works, and a food court restaurant identified by signage only as "ASIAN."

Quintard Vape Vault's grand opening included refreshments, branded lanyards, and a raffle for a free vape device. The raffle was won by an attendee who declined to give his name and asked that he not be photographed.

The store will be open seven days a week, including holidays.

The Calhoun Dispatch — sorry, The Green Tomato — will continue to monitor Quintard Mall's evolving tenant mix. Anyone with information regarding the closure of the former Halloween costume retailer is encouraged to contact mall management.
