WEAVER, Ala. — The Dollar General on Weaver Avenue marked its two-year anniversary this week, a milestone that store manager Patricia Culver called "a good sign" and that several regular customers described as arriving faster than expected.
"Two years already," said Harold Simms, 67, of Weaver, who visits the store approximately three times per week. "It doesn't feel like two years."
The store, which opened in April 2024, stocks cleaning products, seasonal items, snack foods, and what Culver described as "a little bit of everything." The produce section was added in the fall of the first year. Culver said the bananas have been well-received.
The anniversary was not formally commemorated with a ceremony. Culver said she had considered a small display near the entrance but ultimately decided against it. "We just kept things going," she said.
Weaver Mayor Tina Ballard issued a brief statement calling the Dollar General "a valued addition to the Weaver business community" and noting that the city was "glad to have them." The statement was three sentences.
The store employs seven people, five of whom are from Weaver or the surrounding area. It is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Culver said she expects year three to be "about the same, maybe a little busier around the holidays."
The store has not announced plans for a third year celebration.
